Programming Language Overview:
Though, some programming applications are better suited for specific purposes than others, here is a brief list of some of the major applications we can easily work with as well as some of their benefits and drawbacks:

Flash - from simple animations, to highly-advanced multimedia applications, Flash is a powerful presentation tool when used correctly.  A drawback to flash is that it can not be read by search engines and can thus become a marketing pitfall.

PHP – readily accepted across many development platforms, designed to operate on the web, many applications are open-source and thus less expensive to develop.  Windows applications in an office integrate seamlessly with online php.

ASP – asp was designed as a faster alternative to CGI scripting.  Asp enables you to separate design from programming.  A drawback to asp is its necessity to run on a windows-based server, which can become rather costly.

ASP.NET – predominantly used for high-performance web applications.  Asp.net is only for those applications that truly warrant extremely high performance and scalability. The drawback to asp.net is its high cost in comparison to php for instance.

ColdFusion – ability to work across many platforms, easy integration.  A drawback is its dependence on a windows-based hosting platform.  Such platforms are more expensive in the long run.

Java – great security features, internationalization features, speed of development.  A drawback to java is that for the most part it works in conjunction with developed websites as an eye-candy factor, and that the application is plagued with bandwidth limitations.

Javascript- another substitute for CGI scripting, Javascripting is designed for the web.  The benefits with this application are mostly on the programmer side.

Visual Basic – designed for windows and web applications.  It also supports creation of applications for wireless, internet-enabled hand-held devices.  As it is another Microsoft product, we suggest to buckle-up before you get an estimate for work.

MySQL – database that operates with the php programming language

MSSQL - database that operates with the asp and coldfusion programming language

XML – supports multilingual documents, will be used in the future as an exchange format in Microsoft’s Office product line.  Being that it is Microsoft, get out your seatbelts.

Regardless of the information provided above, the benefits of using database programming language almost always outweigh the drawbacks.  The procedure of removing much of the processing from individual computers and transferring this work onto the internet server speeds-up end-user pace an always enhances the multimedia experience.
