A content management system (CMS) adheres to the principle of long-term cost effectiveness. Quality CMSs enable the end-user to completely manage all aspects of their internet presence with little or no knowledge of internet applications. Non-technical staff can create, edit and otherwise manage content such as text, graphics, images and video. Websites anticipating frequent updates are best managed by such a system. If you know how to manage a DVD menu and are able to create a word document, you will be able to manage your website with a custom CMS. Are you really in need of a CMS? - How much content do you need to edit?
- Do you need an internal search mechanism?
- Is the same content reused in different locations on the website?
- Are there peripheral devices that need to communicate with the CMS?
- Is there a need to share information globally, thus necessitating multiple language applications?
- Who will be able to publish content to the site, and are those individuals qualified to do so?
- You need to assign an internal web manager that approves all content. Who will this be?
- Do you need to setup permissions for users?
- Are you subject to comply with any specific regulations such as HIPAA or Federal Guidelines?
